I've always had a passion for floral design and loved making flower arrangements for special occasions, and enjoyed showing my flowers at local village shows.
In 2019 I decided to go to collage to learn how to do floristry professionally. It was whilst attending this course that I realised the amount of plastic waste that the floristry industry created, that and the fact that most of the flowers had travelled thousands of miles by plane made the whole industry seem very unsustainable.
This was something that didn't sit well with me so I decide to look to the past for inspiration.
Floral foam ( which is a single use plastic!) was introduced in the 1950s but looking at books and articles from pre war times I found interesting ways florists use to use to make their beautiful arrangements. The use off natural moss and twine was where I started, I can now offer all types of designs including all of my funeral work completely foam free.
sustainability is the basis to my business and that ultimately begins with my Flowers.
Looking at how far the flowers have to travel and the chemicals they had been treated with to keep them fresh got me thinking.. where could I get good quality local flowers? at the time I had a small allotment where I grew vegetables and I always grew sweet peas, so in the spring I added lots of flower seeds to the allotment and joined 'Flowers from the farm' so I could find local flower growers, I was also gifted Some dahlia tubers by a fellow allotment friend. and my obsession for growing cut flowers started! since then I have learnt what grows well and what not so well and I like to offer flowers that you cant buy in the supermarket or Highstreet florist. I use no chemicals and peat free compost to grow my flowers and every flower is picked to order the night or morning before delivery to make sure it is as fresh as possible for you.
I offer a wide range of services, including wedding and event florals, sympathy arrangements, and daily deliveries. I work with you to create the perfect arrangement for your needs.
